South London House Clearance | Purley, Surrey

The Go Clearance team were called upon to empty a vast six bedroom house in the exclusive Webb Estate in March 2020 just prior to the UK wide lock down.

We were tasked with emptying a huge house that had six large bedrooms, an indoor swimming pool, sauna room, double loft space, quadruplet garage, large garden shed, and some outer buildings including a workshop. This was one of the largest jobs we have taken on since we started out doing house clearances.

Clearing the House on Behalf of a Family  

The client reached out to get in touch having looked up ‘house clearance services in Surrey’ and this job was just up the road from our base. Unfortunately, the client’s mother had passed away around twelve months beforehand and the family had come to the decision to sell the house. The buyer had requested that the property be emptied as part of the agreement of the sale.

As it was a rather large job, we visited the house in person to quote up the job and the client was happy with the cost so we agreed on and set the date for the work to begin. The client gave us the keys and we kept him informed of the progress over the phone throughout the three days were on the job.

Taking on the House Clearance in Purley

We headed into the gated residential area early on the first morning in the knowledge that we had a long three days ahead of us and had come prepared with packing materials and waste disposal bags ready to complete the job.

With such large properties, there are a lot of belongings so luckily, and as you’d expect with a big house, there was a drive which made it a bit easier to carry everything out to the van. As always, we started with the items that were not suitable for reusing which we took to a local recycling centre near Croydon. We are registered and licensed with the environmental agency and so handle waste according to industry standards.

Removing Old Paperwork

Inside the house, we collected up about 1.5 tonnes of old magazines, paperwork and newspapers, which were taken to a confidential paper recycling facility. Before we undertake a job like this, we ask the client to remove any confidential or important papers in order to reduce the risks involved.

In total, the whole job was about six Luton van loads – one of our biggest projects to date! After we finished we called the client to let them know and we arranged to meet back at the house so he could check over the property and make sure he was satisfied. It turned out he was very happy with the job, and as a sign of times, unfortunately, there were no shaking hands as this was five days prior to the lockdown.
